What: 1800 Ultimate Blueberry Margarita
Where: Liquor department of Costco
Cost: $14.99 for a 1.75-liter bottle
Q: Should I serve this at/bring this to my next holiday party?
Holidays are in full swing! With all the recital potlucks, family gatherings and visitors, I've been going to Costco more than usual and finding some intriguing stuff. And by intriguing, I mean in a holiday sense.
I’m always impressed with parties that showcase special dishes, but I'm especially impressed when someone whips out some cool holiday libation that matches the party theme. So you can imagine all the themes that danced through my head when I saw the bluest drink ever.
Made by 1800, the Ultimate Blueberry Margarita is a ready-to-drink mix found in the liquor section of Costco. It costs $14.99 for 1.75 liters and is 9.95 percent alcohol by volume (19.9 proof). At 8 ounces a serving, you could make approximately 7.5 servings for a cost of about $2 per serving.
It's very very simple to make: You can have the margarita on the rocks or blended. I try both. I pour ice and 1 cup of drink mix into a blender. I add extra ice because I like a slushy-style margarita. I coat the rim of a glass with salt and lemon zest, then pour the slushed drink into the cup and voila! It's ready.
How does it taste? Straight up like blue Otter Pops. Blended, it isn’t unpleasant, but quite nostalgic. On the rocks, the drink is a bit over-sweet.
If you're having a fun holiday party, this might be the drink for you. Served with some candy-flavored candy canes, the Ultimate Blueberry Margarita might be the azzle to dazzle your guests. However, if sweet ain't your thang, then you might want to rein it in deer, and pass.
