New Kakaako lounge makes WorkPlay

Is it a bar or is it a workspace? You decide

People know Kakaako as a hip spot for bars, and yes, a practical central spot for working. Why not enhance the two?

WorkPlay — which officially opened this week — is the brainchild of Philip Hasha, who was inspired by real-life brainstorms where he and his colleagues would get great ideas over drinks. When you look at his new venue, WorkPlay, it’s clearly a bar. They serve beautiful handcrafted cocktails, they have a fab French chef, they feature live music on their stage.

But look deeper, and they’ve provided work spaces so that if you do get struck with an idea, you can run with it. Or, if you’re like me and my friend Kaimana Pine, you might seek out such a place with groovy workspaces, and know that the wifi and drinks are a big bonus in, um, enhancing your creativity.

If you need more privacy, they have three theme rooms in which you can have meetings. If you don’t need a whole meeting room and just need a quiet, practical place to work, they also have booths in the back. At the moment, there’s no charge to use those facilities, either. Jackpot, cofficers!

Check out Kaimana's video to get a look inside Work Play and some of the drinks we tried while working. Yes, working!

WorkPlay is open Monday through Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to midnight. You can also check out their grand opening celebration on January 18.
