When it comes to unique experiences, Azure is raising the bar — literally. ‘Raising the Bar’ is a new themed event every third Friday in the restaurant’s bar area. It’s from 8 to 9:30 p.m., so you don’t have to worry about hitting pau hana Friday traffic into Waikiki.
This monthly event ups the typical wine dinner experience into something exciting, engaging and enticing. Themes change every month, so you'll want to keep coming back. Each time you'll find unique beverages with commentary and industry tips by The Royal Hawaiian’s sommeliers Micah Suderman and Ariana Tsuchiya. These are accompanied by small plates by Azure chef de cuisine Shingo Katsura. It's not a crowd scene — it's limited to 60 people — and at $50 per person with live music in the background and a beachfront setting, it's a gorgeous, relaxing Friday evening.
Raising the Bar debuted April 19 with a Rum Amok theme featuring Ko Hana Rum. Attendees were treated to a sampling of three sugar cane rums and three cocktails: a welcome cocktail, a tiki-style version and ‘booze forward’ to cap off the night. Shingo’s featured appetizers included wagyu beef sliders with brioche and truffled mushrooms, almond brittle with foie gras mousse, marinated Manila clams with kaffir lime, fresno peppers, garlic and cilantro, and coke-braised pork belly in lettuce cups topped with soba and fennel. Attendees watched expert mixologists mix their drinks and indulged in small plates at high tops.
The next Raising the Bar event is May 17 and the theme is "Walk the Silverado Trail,” which will explore the diversity of Napa Valley’s great wineries. Attendees can taste six wines and enjoy heavy appetizers prepared by Katsura. For reservations, call 931-7837. For groups of four or more, it's just $45 a person.
