Crab artichoke dip, $7 at happy hour, $14 at dinner
The deep dive: Moena Café opened at Kapolei's Ka Makana Ali’i in late 2016. It’s three times bigger than Moena's Hawaii Kai breakfast and lunch spot, but the biggest difference is that in Kapolei, they're also open for happy hour and dinner.
This fresh lump crab and artichoke dip is an addictive must-have from the latest menu. And it's the best deal: From 4 to 7 p.m. an 8-ounce serving of this creamy dip is $7, compared to $14 for 12 ounces at dinner.
Each dish is made to order, and the blue corn tortilla chips are freshly fried. The dip has a heaping amount of fresh blue lump crab, plenty of fresh artichoke hearts, cream cheese, parmesan cheese, bell peppers and garlic. Chef Pedro Quintero prepares the dip in a skillet, fries the accompanying blue corn tortilla chips, tops the dip with parmesan cheese and slides it under the broiler to let the cheese crisp.
The result: a rich, toasted, golden brown layer atop warm, crabby goodness.
Every bite yields a harmonious medley of gooey cheese, chunks of artichokes and generous pieces of blue lump crab. Moena doesn’t skimp on the seafood. You'll want to do your own deep dive into this one.
