The Indie Girl Salad includes fresh greens, beets, beet hummus and seasoned quinoa. It looks pretty basic but it's actually very tasty.

Fresh, healthy items debut at The Street

The Street Test Kitchen opened and Indie Girl expanded

It's been a year since Michael Mina launched his food hall concept, The Street, in International Marketplace, and he's looking to launch some new food stations in the next two months to meet the demands and tastes of the customers.

Two of those new stations just opened this week: Indie Girl and The Street Test Kitchen. Indie Girl was already known for its fresh, cold-pressed juices, but is now expanding with healthy vegetarian/vegan superfood dishes. You can't really find much of that in Waikiki (or much of Honolulu, for that matter), so this is probably one of the more exciting additions right now. Summer is coming, folks!

The Street Test Kitchen is similar to the MINA Test Kitchen in San Francisco, as it will serve as an R&D lab for Mina and his chefs and will showcase a variety of different cuisines thorugh public "pop ups," as they call it. The first test run is featuring a poke concept with bowls and rolls.

Here are some photos from our tasting recently. I'll be honest, I had to use their staged PR shots for this blog, because healthy food just does not photograph well. I almost passed on blogging it because my photos weren't pretty, but once I tasted the food, it was so delicious I had to share it with you.

The vegan Notorious IVB features a roasted beet and brown rice patty with a Small Kine Farms mushroom medley, alfalfa sprouts and sliced avocado. It's not a firm patty but I liked the flavor, which was actually not too beet-y or grassy. It took on more of the mellow flavors, like the rice, avocado, and mushrooms. This is also available as a loco moco, which is eggless but has a shiitake mushroom gravy.
Who doesn't love avocado toast? Indie Girl will also feature tomato toast and mushroom toast, each atop house-made multi-grain bread.
Indie Girl's new acai bowl, which is a little heartier than others and has a nice blend of different textures.
The salmon and kim chee bowl is one of four poke items at Mina's Test Kitchen. You can order these poke dishes as bowls or rolls. Other combinations include tuna california, tuna with salad, and shrimp with spices and salad.
