The Bar at Foodland Farms Ala Moana is our go-to spot for unwinding after marathon shopping and meeting up with friends for pau hana. Now there's even more reason to go: A whole new bar menu that goes way beyond charcuterie and cheese.
Pozole soup, fresh oysters on the half-shell, a 5-ounce burger topped with bacon marmalade: We're not talking your standard edamame and fries. Choices range from indulgent to healthy — all made to order, designed to pair with wine or craft beer and available daily from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Oh, and the charcuterie and cheese? Don't worry, the popular faves from the old menu are still there.
So hop on a stool and feast your eyes on some of our favorite eats from the new lineup.
So we said there’s more than fries — check out the new lightly battered garlic pepper fries paired with big bites of crispy chicharrones. The chicharrones are dusted with an addictive seasoning and come with creamy adobo aioli for dipping. This is the perfect pupu to share — or not, we're not judging. For something crisp and refreshing to offset this decadence, opt for a glass of Prosecco or your favorite beer.
Foodland Farms' new shareable wings are tossed in a sticky Vietnamese nuoc cham caramel sauce with mint, toasted peanuts and chilies. There's flavor and textures going in all directions on this plate. The bartenders recommend using a fork and knife, unless you're the type that loves licking saucy bits off your fingers.
It's easy to see why these fish tacos are one of the most popular dishes on the new menu. Three tacos feature the fresh catch of the day, which might be opah, ono or kajiki (Pacific blue marlin). They're served with housemade salsa, cabbage slaw, orange mojo, avocado crema, olive oil, salt, pepper and garlic and are great if you want a light snack that doesn't skimp on flavor.
The bar's new third-pound burger is made in-house by Foodland Farms’ meat department, cooked to order and topped with a slightly sweet bacon marmalade, field greens and chili aioli. It comes with those addictive garlic pepper fries.
You don't often see fresh oysters on bar menus, and the ones at Foodland Farms are decently priced. Most of the time you'll find sweet Kumamoto oysters chilling in a Prosecco shallot mignonette.
If you’re looking for a little indulgence after a savory meal or snack, the new housemade almond clusters do the trick. Bite-size morsels of almonds and toffee are enrobed in dark chocolate, making for an ideal sweet-and-salty balance. There are even gold flecks on top for pizzazz. Talk about broke da mouth without breaking the bank.
