Cosmic fashion, makeup and food is the big trend now, so naturally, Shokudo created a psychedelic dessert to celebrate their anniversary month. Every year, the restaurant offers a different and unusual honey toast — since it's their signature dessert, it's a way to put a twist on their own birthday cake to share with customers.
From now until March 31, they've got unicorn honey toast on the menu, but don't worry, no unicorns were harmed in making this dish. Instead of the usual two stacks of ultra thick-sliced bread, this will have three, layered with vanilla ice cream and cubed toast bits. The tower will be drizzled with colorful cotton candy extract, then topped with a unicorn glitter cone made by Via Gelato. (At this writing, they weren't sure if the edible glitter would arrive in time, but hopefully some of you will get to enjoy the extra sparkle.)
Since it's got an extra stack of toast and extra unicorn magic, this dessert is $20 (regular honey toast is $7.95), and the instagrammable-ness is priceless. And the flavor? It's pretty sweet — you need to have ice cream with the bites of toast or the drizzle will be too overwhelming. But I turned to my friend Yumi, who whacked a whole layer by herself, and she said it was remniniscent of American candies ... in a good way.
Each unicorn honey toast comes with a surprise prize envelope during Shokudo's anniversary month with one golden ticket, so ask your server for all the details.
