Have you heard of the women’s apparel store, Calypso St. Barth? I had not, until I got invited to their opening at Royal Hawaiian Center, but I’m not as elevated in consciousness about fashion as Tyson or Amanda, our fashion bloggers. Then again, my learning about the store from the ground up will help me introduce the store to you.
Calypso St. Barth has been in business since 1992, offering unique women’s apparel that are classic, but Bohemian, and look good on women of all ages and sizes. That was demonstrated in its opening this week, as the staff has a mix of ethnicities, shapes and sizes, all wearing items from the store. In fact, when First Lady Nancie Caraway (Gov. Neil Abercrombie’s wife) heard they were coming to Hawaii, she researched where they’d be and excitedly asked to come to the grand opening, as this is her favorite store. They timed the grand opening around the Governor’s schedule just for her. Now, that’s dedication.
The other thing they’re known for is the fact that their clothes is ready to wear, with no ironing — perfect for travel. Most of the items are mix-and-match pieces, so you could layer them. And unlike most brands in this category, the colors are rich and there are interesting textures and embellishments, so you don’t look like you’re wearing one-size-fits-all clothes. I was going to try things on, myself, but it was the end of the grand opening event and the women who attended had all bought the items I wanted. That’s how popular this is with women in the know.
Here’s a look at their team and some of their outfits, so you can see what I’m talking about.
If you want to see the store yourself, it’s on the first floor in the Royal Hawaiian Center.
