Nonstop Tech Podcast: Back it up!

Share Button

The Nonstop Tech team is introducing a new podcast series. We don’t have an official name yet, so for now, we’ll just call it the Nonstop Tech Podcast. The mission of the podcast series is not only to showcase the current tech happenings, but also to provide helpful tips and instruction to our readers and viewers.

Nonstop Tech wants to be more than a raving nerdfest. We want you to feel comfortable knowing that if you have a technical question or just want to know the coolest shortcuts to get things done, we’re here to help. So send us your questions. The Nonstop Tech team has nearly 100 years combined experience in computers and technical support, and now you have us on your side.

The first episode is dedicated to backup, browser performance and security with a little news splashed in. My co-host is Jerome Koehler, a solutions consultant at Apple. The Nonstop Tech Swiss Army Nerds are at your service. The video looks best in HD, so if you have a fast connection, press the HD logo in the video player and full screen for an extra serving of geekiness.

In the show, we keep speaking of the “Show Notes,” and here they are. Below you’ll find all the relevant links for topics we’ve covered in the show. This list may change after the initial posting, so please check back from time to time. I’ll be posting an iTunes subscription link here soon so you will never have to worry about missing an episode.

Where's the feed for this podcast (RSS with enclosures)? I'd absolutely love to subscribe to make sure I don't miss a single episode!

A lot of the stuff that we covered in this podcast will also be covered in my presentation about Lion on Tuesday. You have to back up...and a lot of people do not. Thanks again for a fun Podcast Doc.

Awesome first podcast @docrock! Really hit home when you folks mentioned the lost photos as it's happened to me before. Bad feeling!

Also like what @jeromekoehler had to say about Ghostery. I need to try it out asap.

Looking forward to the next podcast! Loved the about.me/personal homepage topic!

I can't speak highly enough about CrashPlan. If you have friends with disk space who also use it, it's essentially a fully free service. Very reliable, and I have restored files from backup easily with it.

Thanks Doc for answering my question about downloading YouTube videos on idevices. I've already downloaded Adapter and will give it a try. My next question is I have a bunch of miniDV tapes that I'd like to convert to digital video. What's the easiest and least costly way to do this? My old camcorder only connected to my TV, and not my computer.

@hawaii I have to set it up still and John and are have been super busy. I know that's not a great excuse but I'll get on it as soon as I can stop the sharks from circling :). Thanks Ryan.

@Cat Thank you very much. I still want to do one with you about outlining and some go to writing tips for business people. You know like fixing common mistakes in grammar and punctuation. One of my pet peeves is people misusing "i.e." Versus "e.g." especially when it's so easy i.e. = in essence and e.g. for e.g.gxample :)

@s4xton I think that's what makes it the best, The first initial back for me took about 3 weeks to upload because RoadRunner upload speed are so slow. I may need to op for the $80 a month 30 down and 5 up RoadRunner Extreme plan.

@DianeSeo Does your Mini DV Camera have a firewire port? If so the best way is to capture them to an external HD. If not you have little choice except to either borrow a canera/deck or send to a place like Affordable Image Transfers in Kaliua

@docrock Cool! And I know you guys are busy. Just don't forget the media enclosure feed... it's not really a podcast without one!

@docrock@s4xton I am really like the 30 down 5 up RR plan so far. I did cord cut though and get rid of my cable television since I rarely watch TV.
