Taste-testing a classy last minute gift idea

How many more shopping days until Christmas? Do you know that I’m still shopping for things as you read this, despite the fact that I try to escape from the madness every year to Las Vegas? How do I get myself into these things?

I ran around the Pearlridge farmer’s market this weekend, frantically grabbing things like The Stick and The Ball granola and Nic’s Island Cafe tea for various quick gifts that just about everyone will love. But I also got a box from the East India Company — which is featured in Neiman Marcus — that has similar grab-and-go items, but for occasions that call for slightly more elevated flair.

East India Company started as a British trading company (that imported items from India, of course) and brought that English touch of classiness to the items they sold. They launched their range of teas and fine foods this fall, just in time for the holidays, and the Honolulu Neiman Marcus store is one of only nine in the chain to carry them.

Olena Heu and I met at the Moana Surfrider to catch up with each other, swap holiday tips, and try some of the new products so we can tell you if they are legitimately classy and provide the flavors that we would expect from such items. We were surprised at the item that we liked the most!

If you want to get any of these items, you can find them at Neiman Marcus. The biscuits were about $11; the strawberries, about $18, and the tea was about $20.

Merry Christmas to all you humbugs like me!
