Sneak peek: Little Sheep Mongolian Hot Pot

Little Sheep Mongolian Hot Pot, with more than 300 locations spanning China to New York, will open Friday at Ward Centre. I was invited Wednesday evening to a media event to preview the menu and see what’s unique about this rapidly expanding hot pot chain.

Unlike most hot pot places in Hawaii, Little Sheep only has two broths, a 36-spice original soup broth and a vegetarian mushroom broth. Diners are able to request different levels of spiciness or order a low sodium option.

There are three full pages meat, veggie and seafood options on the menu. Even the pickiest eaters should be able to find interesting options for their hot pots. The manager guessed that it would cost roughly $25 a head.

Here’s a look at what we sampled:

Little Sheep is located on the second floor of Ward Centre next to the old Grand Leyenda Cantina space. There is ample seating inside the restaurant, but there's also patio seating for cool summer nights.
