For 19 years, celebrity photographer Russell Tanoue has morphed his birthday celebration into a high-profile benefit event. Saturday night, a portion of the proceeds from the celebration held at M Nightclub went to Hugs, a nonprofit that provides support for seriously ill children and their families, and Project Shine Hawaii, a program that provides makeovers and photo shoots for at-risk-youth, domestic violence victims and cancer survivors. In years past, the benefit has supported American Cancer Society, American War Heroes, Aloha Medical Mission, Feeding the Homeless, Hugs, United Way, Community Helping Schools, At-risk Teens from Palama Settlement, and individuals dealing with life challenging issues.
Entertainment included vocalist Maka Esteban, who nailed a performance of Adele’s “Skyfall” with his golden voice, and acoustic duo Roy Roza and Phil Crown.
The silent auction was a hit, with offerings and gift cards from Chef Chai’s, Powerhouse Gym, Skincare by Skin Ceuticals, RumFire, Botox, laser treatments courtesy of Dr. David Yew, photo shoots courtesy of RTFOTO, jewelry courtesy of Honolulu Trading Company and much more.
The highlight of the night: A fashion show featuring designs from Project Runway all-star Kini Zamora, international swimwear line Letarte, and POSHD by Valerie Joseph.
