We stopped by Wednesday’s ’80s-themed gathering and screening of “Ping Pong Summer” at Ward Village. The event, which launched last month and happens every second Thursday of the month, had spirited attendees strutting in their best ’80s attire for a costume contest, with music by DJ Super CW. There was also free popcorn and food for sale by Pig and the Lady, Local STOP, Beyond Burgers and Aloha Pops.

Although the film was just released last month, it’s set in 1985, and centers on a 13-year-old teenage boy obsessed with two things: ping pong and hip hop.
