The streets of Kaka`ako were closed Sunday afternoon and filled with cyclists of all ages in celebration of Cyclovia. Cyclovia promotes the education of cyclist and pedestrian rights, along with healthy living. Attendees were able to explore Kaka`ako on all types of people-powered wheeled vehicles, including bicycles, tricycles and skates.
Hele on Kaka`ako also featured the Complete Streets demonstration project, a colorful mock-up of what Cooke Street could look like in the future, optimized for a balanced, sustainable transportation system friendly to bikes, buses and pedestrians and complete with traffic roundabouts and little parklets where people were encouraged to stop, rest and have a conversation.
