Hawaii’s Best Kitchens, the local Instagram account that reposts gorgeous food photos, reached a milestone 100,000 followers and is throwing a party to celebrate. The Best of Hawaii’s Best Kitchens will feature dishes by 14 winning restaurants at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki this Saturday, and here’s the thing — tickets to the graze-around feast are $49.50.
“We wanted to keep it affordable so anybody could come,” says Darrell Chock, the digital marketer who started @HawaiisBestKitchens in 2014. The idea was to help spread the word about eateries in Hawaii, from food trucks and mom-and-pop hole-in-the-walls to big chain restaurants. Followers who tag or hashtag #hawaiisbestkitchens on their Instagram posts have a shot at getting their food pics reposted by Chock. Hawaii’s Best Kitchens has now been tagged over 92,000 times.
For the 100,000-follower mark, Chock Instagrammed a flyer announcing a contest for best restaurant in 20-plus categories. Followers voted for their favorites in the comments.
And that’s whose food is being featured this Saturday: dishes from 14 of the winning restaurants in categories ranging from Best Burger to Best Desserts to Best New Restaurant. General admission starts from 7 p.m. and costs $49.50. VIP tickets are $85 and include early admission from 6 p.m., VIP seating, complimentary cocktail and gift bag.
Saint Archer, the craft brewer from San Diego, will have its award-winning Saint Archer IPA, White Ale and Blonde Ale for purchase, as well as Miller Lite, and there’ll be samples of Ciroc French Vanilla.
