Guide to Hawaii Fashion Month

The second annual Hawaii Fashion Month gets underway in November, with a variety of events, from runway shows to seminars, pop-up shops and beauty bars. Here’s the rundown of what’s happening:

Hawaii Fashion Month 2014 kicks off with a VIP soiree, celebrating the official launch of the Hawaii Fashion Exchange (HFX). Presented by HIFI, Ward Village and FLUX Magazine, the VIP soiree features DJ Mr. Nick and models in gowns designed by Randy Leano. This event is by invitation only. Opening of HFX Photography Exhibition

Roque Cozzette Workshop – Bridal Beauty Makeup Techniques

Your Dapper Launch Party

Your Dapper will tell the story of how we see the present and future state of Hawaii by creating a unique sensory experience via “participatory theater.” Pupu and cocktails will be custom made, as each will be paired with the “look” that served as its inspiration. To complete the immersive, five-sensory experience, an event-exclusive soundtrack will be created by Your Dapper’s team of music consultants.

Roque Cozzette Workshop – Fashion Makeup Master Mix

During this advanced makeup seminar, Roque Cozzette will discuss the wants, desires and expectations of the high-fashion set. He’ll guide you through seven hours of hands-on training, drawing on his eight years of experience working alongside legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath, and her multi-faceted clientele that include top names in fashion like Alexander McQueen, Givenchy, Dior, Gucci, Prada, Louis Vuitton and more.

The specific skills Cozzette covers during this class include inspiration and design, product selection, skin enhancement, facial highlighting and sculpting, use of iridescent pigments, and how to create a face chart to blueprint a makeup look. Register online: roquecozzette.com/events

An exclusive collaboration between renowned Hawaiian wear designer Sig Zane and New York-based Saturdays Surf NYC. Acclaimed local interior designer Kaypee Soh, will debut pieces from his first-ever womenswear apparel collection.

6 p.m.: Runway Show: Art of Fashion: The Best of Neiman Marcus
Showcase of the latest collections from some of the world’s best designers in an exciting and cutting-edge runway presentation.

Louda Larrain Textile Exhibit Opening

HFX Mentor and textile designer Louda Larrain makes her Oahu debut at this fishcake exhibit running Nov. 13-Dec. 30. The exhibit features a larger-than-life dress pieced together from couture textiles, as well as new “soft sculptures” available for purchase. Louda will give a short talk about her life and work in Moscow, Paris, New York and now Kauai at the opening night Nov. 13.

Louda Larrain Fashion Illustration HFX Mentor Workshop

This intimate workshop is suitable for aspiring and experienced illustrators; capacity is very limited.

The workshop content will include:

    • A presentation on fashion illustration history that is inseparable from the history of costume, its rules, mystery and anecdotes.
    • A demonstration that will explain the approach and methods of fashion illustration.
    • Numerous drawing sessions with live models that will strike fashionable poses dressed in Louda Collection Couture.
    • Diverse exercises to help communicate students’ fashion ideas through drawing.

In collaboration with Indie Visual List and Hawaii Craftsmen, this event will focus on showcasing up and coming local fashion designers from the University of Hawaii and Honolulu Community College as they present looks that are based off of the theme “ICONICA: Musical Icons”, while still incorporating a unique fiber arts element into their pieces.

Waikiki Roots & Royal Style

Witness as the catwalk comes alive with chic ensembles from locally owned businesses that set their roots in that very place, with the event beginning with a special kick-off at 5 p.m., fashion show at 5:30 p.m., and VIP cocktail reception at 6:30 p.m.

Shoppers can commemorate Hawaii Fashion Month with a limited-edition Hawaii Fashion Month t-shirt when they make purchases totaling $250 or more in one day. Receipts can be turned into Helumoa Hale & Guest Services to redeem the t-shirt. Offer runs through November.

Our Night Out – Kona at the Brewery Block

This event provides designers a unique opportunity to showcase their designs in fashion presentations on eight models, and to sell their designs to guests at in-store pop-up booths.
