With Year Two under its belt now, it looks like Comic Con Honolulu has found its legs. It might not be as crazy as San Diego Comic Con or as huge as Dragoncon, but our Comic Con, staffed by all volunteers and attended by over 7,700 people this last weekend, is still like no other. The mix of casual aloha, amazing cosplay and high-profile celebrity guests, including George Takei of “Star Trek,” John Barrowman of “Arrow,” “Doctor Who” and “Torchwood”, Summer Glau of “Firefly” and “Serenity,” Colin Ferguson of “Haven” and “The Vampire Diaries,” and Grant Imahara, host of Discovery Channel’s “MythBusters,’ plus tons of fan panels, industry guest writers and artists, video games, table top games and a local vendor area, all helped create a memorable Con.

A few highlights of the weekend:

-Mayor Kirk Caldwell proclaiming Saturday, July 30, as George Takei Day in Honolulu, and hearing the veteran “Star Trek” actor speak about the first three episodes of the show and how the first “Star Trek: The Motion Picture” came about. Takei also did his best to clear up the controversy over what he thinks about the new Sulu in “Star Trek Beyond” being gay.

-John Barrowman’s entire panel, at times raunchy and hilarious, at times emotional, but always riveting. Especially hearing him sing a beautiful cover of Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years,” a song that he dedicated to love and the right everyone has to love the person of their choice.

-Saturday’s Cosplay Contest, which brought many of the best costumes of the weekend up on stage. The grand prize went to this amazing handmade and 3D printed outfit:
