Did this: Honolulu Night + Market

Word: Honolulu Night Market has hit its stride. Saturday night it packed in an estimated 2,500 for the sights, sounds, eats and buys that filled the uber-urban lot in the middle of Auahi between Coral and Keawe. Heard over and over: “It doesn’t even feel like Honolulu” and “This is nothing like Eat the Street” — both in a good way. Honolulu Night Market has become its own thing.

To recap the deets: 17 pop-up retail booths, 8 pop-up food stalls, a beer garden with well drinks and specialty cocktails, live skateboarding demos, fashion show by Summer Shiigi, jugglers, fire dancers and a concert by The Deadbeats. Nonstop Instagram scavenger hunt, with a $200 grand prize gift certificate from The Whole Ox Deli going to a winner to be announced Sunday. All $5 admission, no cover for the beer garden. And people, if you missed the retail, that part continues Sunday with A Pinch of Salt, in the same sublimely transformed warehouse in the middle of the block, a pre-Christmas urban shopping event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Best part: no mall jams. It’s all sane and civil.
