Hawaii’s own Jack Johnson played the first of two sold-out Kokua Hawaii Foundation benefit concerts at the Waikiki Shell on Friday night to an appreciative audience. The understated star’s funky, feel-good set included crowd favorites like “Better Together,” “Banana Pancakes,” “Good People” and one of his newer hits, “I Got You.”
Opening was soulful British singer Michael Kiwanuka, who also came back for a well-received encore with Johnson later on in the night. Amazing local singer Paula Fuga stepped up on stage to accompany him for the reggae song “Give Voice,” to an enthusiastic reaction by the crowd.
