A Lucky Modern Buddha Belly put 1,000 diners poolside at The Modern Honolulu Thursday night, grazing at 14 star-chef-studded stations and sipping Asian-inspired cocktails and wines poured by the vintners themselves.

Spotted: Legions of off-duty chefs, including the ponytailed Hubert Keller of SF’s Fleur de Lys, Jose Garces of Iron Chef fame, and Masaharu Morimoto, whose Morimoto Waikiki is in The Modern.

Hottest buzz for: Tender, grilled, bacon-topped abalone from Nancy Oakes of SF’s Boulevard Restaurant; smoked Kualoa oysters from Chris Kajioka; shave ice with mochi ice cream and haupia tapioca from MW Restaurant’s Michelle Karr Ueoka.

And despite the crowds and all those high heels, no one fell in the pool.

Fun event last night. Great crowd. Food was generally good overall, but a few clunkers. I really enjoyed the grilled abalone, the shaved foie gras, the pork belly bun and the shave ice. Some dishes were just awful. The Korean chef's (Byung Jin Kim I believe) dish was just a big ole mess. I didn't know what the hell I was eating. And I was also disappointed by Tom Douglas' offering. I ate at one of his restaurants in Seattle and loved it so I was expecting something better.

@Myong i didn't get to try much (was trying to figure out my video cam) but i asked everyone what they liked. the european woman in line in front of me named a couple of dishes and then said, 'u know, i went to joy of sake, and i thot the food there was really good.' made. my. nite.
