The one place you wanted to be this past weekend was at Honolulu’s first Baker Faire, a pop-up event at MW Restaurant, featuring sweet treats from seven Hawaii pastry chefs and bakers. Originally scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 9, Baker Faire launched exactly a week later, with a crowd of eaters loading up on sweet goodness by Alejandro Briceno of the new Pai; Halekulani’s Mark Freischmidt; MW Restaurant’s Michelle Karr-Ueoka Pili Group’s Kimberly Oi; Chris Sy of Breadshop; Koko Head Cafe’s Lee Anne Wong; and Alison Yokouchi of The Pig and the Lady at KCC Farmers Markets.
It would be good if next year’s Baker Faire (I’m positive there will be another one), could be held at a larger location so local ice cream parlors could join in. If its debut is any indication, maybe the Baker Faire can become as big as Eat the Street. That’s a possibility, right? Yes, and a tasty one at that.
