This past Friday, The Royal Hawaiian hosted an ambitious two-hour fashion show that featured some of Japan’s top models, Paris Hilton and models from Hawaii. The fashion show was the close of the inaugural Hawaiian May! with five events over three days, including this invitation-only fashion show with Hilton, who debuted her fashion collection, Honey Bunch.
There was definitely a sense of model mania. Each time one of the Japanese models hit the runway, a sea of smart-phones and tablets rose high above the hundreds in attendance at this exclusive event. Although it was a VIP event, public onlookers had a great view from Waikiki Beach. This was reportedly the first time so many of Japan’s top models appeared together in Hawaii. Many of the models are seen on magazine covers such as Elle Japan, CanCam, JJ, ViVi, Oggi and Glamorous.
Local fashion brands that were featured in the fashion show included San Lorenzo Bikinis, Angels by the Sea, 88 Tees, Fighting Eel, MUSE by RIMO, Mu’u Mu’u Heaven, Pualani, Aloha Aina, Tiare Hawaii, Noelani and Indah. Japanese brands Double Standard Clothing, MURUA and Honey Bunch were featured. Musical artists MINMI and Bruce Shimabukuro performed on stage.
We were glad to have Nicolette Romano, a working model from Hawaii, serve as our translator as this event was strongly driven for the Japanese media and tourists.
