The first night of the Republik Music Festival brought the bass inside Republik, with DJ tag team sets by local DJs opening the night at 6 p.m., followed by heavy-hitting, back-to-back sets by Pretty Low, DJ Muggs of Cypress Hill, Infected Mushroom and Excision (Brillz was unable to make the show due to a scheduling conflict). Although plans for the festival changed last-minute, that didn’t stop electronic, trap, dubstep and psy-trance fans from packing the venue and rocking out. The highlight of the night was a rare, live hour-and-a-half set by Israeli psy-trance legends Infected Mushroom, who proved themselves to be master showmen, holding the crowd’s attention with hits from their 15-year career and an infectious energy.
Stay tuned on Saturday for the second night of the Republik Music Festival, with Damian Marley at Kakaako Park.
