In preparation for its official opening, MW Restaurant — with married chefs Wade Ueoka and Michelle Karr-Ueoka at the helm — invited friends and family for a look and taste of what’s on the menu at the Kapiolani Boulevard eatery, which opens today for lunch and dinner. (A happy hour menu is planned for the near future.)
Ueoka and Karr-Ueoka are two of Hawaii’s most heralded younger chefs. Both were named 2012 Hawaii Rising Stars by StarChefs.com, and both have a long history working at Alan Wong’s, Wade as chef de cuisine and Michelle as pastry chef. Recently, Wade was a featured chef at Kaka‘ako’s pop-up space, Taste.
MW, derived from their first names, will forge ahead on the Hawaii Regional Cuisine front, offering dishes that utilize lots of locally grown or produced ingredients. Wade conceptualized the main menus, while Michelle will reign over the desserts. Here’s a look at dishes we tasted at the preview:
