On Monday, we launched a new section called Nonstop Tech that like its name suggests, focuses on everything technology. It’s something Nonstop’s John Garcia had wanted to do for awhile, but it took some time to shape and conceptualize.
Although John could have done a technology blog himself, we decided that the coverage would be much stronger if we tapped some of Hawaii’s most active tech geeks. So John asked three guys who are about as passionate as they come about technology — Ryan Ozawa, Burt Lum and Doc Rock.
One of the truly fortunate — and amazing — things we’ve experienced since we launched Nonstop last August is that just about everyone we’ve asked to contribute to the site has agreed without hesitation. This was the case with Ryan, Burt and Doc, although all three have plenty of other things going on in their lives.
John, Ryan, Burt and I initially met at Zippy’s one morning to brainstorm the section. Over loco mocos and coffee, what clearly came across to me was that these guys LOVE technology. It’s not a job for them to delve into this world; they’re just fascinated by gadgets, applications and just about anything tech, and they want to share information and create a forum for those who appreciate it too.
So that’s the genesis of the section. Like everything, it’s something that will take time to develop. But I assure you, these guys will stay on top of things. Utilizing multimedia, they’ll take turns blogging, and they’ll be doing everything from reviewing mobile apps to talking about the latest tech news to interviewing people in the tech community, both here in Hawaii and elsewhere.
Nonstop Honolulu began as primarily an entertainment website, focusing on events, eating and nightlife. But as we grow, we realize it should be more of a lifestyle site, covering how we live, eat, go out and have fun. Technology definitely has a place in this realm, so we hope you can help us shape it into something useful and entertaining.
What kinds of tech content would you like to see on the site? And what do you think would be the most engaging ways to tell these stories?
And if you haven’t checked out the section, you should visit Nonstop Tech.
