touseThe environmental nonprofit PangeaSeed and the Honolulu Museum of Art team up to present the first World Oceans Day Hawai’i—a multimedia event that aims to connect local marine conservationists, filmmakers, scientists and ocean enthusiasts to share their knowledge. The event, held June 6 to 12, features a film festival, art exhibition, Sea Keiki Fun Zone, guest speakers and panel discussions. For more info, visit worldoceansday.org

World Oceans Day is an international happening of events on June 8. Organizations around the world celebrate and raise awareness of the world’s oceans and accompanying issues.

Art exhibition: Sleep With the Fishes: Kozyndan and Olek
June 6-12, Honolulu Museum of Art School
Opening reception: June 6, 6-9 p.m.
The exhibit features ocean-centered works by internationally known artists Olek and Kozyndan. In addition, the artists will create two site-specific art installations inside the Doris Duke Theatre, and will be on view to through the end of August.

World Oceans Day Film Festival
June 7 and 8, Honolulu Museum of Art Doris Duke Theatre
This two-day showcase of films related to the world’s oceans aims to harness the power of the imagination, deepen our understanding and inspire our communities to protect and preserve the precious ocean ecosystem. All screenings take place at the Honolulu Museum of Art Doris Duke Theatre, entrance at 901 Kina‘u St.

June 7:
10 a.m. – “Narcosis,” “Vanishing Pearls: The Oysterman of Pointe a la Hache,” “Haenyeo: Women of the Sea”
1 p.m. – “Sushi: The Global Catch,” “Ain’t No Fish,” “People of the Coral Triangle” and “The Story of Sushi.”
6-7:30 p.m. – Opening reception
7:30 p.m. – “Revolution,” “Shadow Reef,” “Slow Life”

June 8:
9:30 a.m. – Sea Keiki Fun Zone (various screenings)
